Round 1 2017 Summary

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is required by law to recompete contracts under the Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) Competitive Bidding Program at least once every three years. The Round 1 Recompete contract period expired on December 31, 2016. Round 1 2017 became effective on January 1, 2017.

On 1 January 2017, Round 1 2017 contracts and prices became effective in thirteen competitive bidding areas (CBAs) for seven product categories. Beneficiaries with Original Medicare who obtained competitively bid items in those thirteen CBAs were required to obtain those items from a contract supplier unless an exception applied. The contract period for mail-order diabetic supplies ended on December 31, 2016.
